Keep a simple record: date, subreddit, post/comment, upvotes received, notable reactions. This shows you when you are gaining traction and which communities are most responsive to your contributions.


Step 3: The Product Reveal (Month 2 to 3)

After six to eight weeks of contribution, you have credibility. Now you can introduce your product - carefully, transparently, and only when directly relevant.

The correct moment:

Someone posts: “I’ve been looking for a tool to track my freelance invoices and pending payments in India - everything I’ve tried is too complex or not built for Indian clients. Any recommendations?”

This is your moment. Respond:

“I’ve spent the last year building exactly this - disclosure, I’m the founder. We built [Product] specifically for Indian freelancers dealing with INR invoicing and Indian payment delays. Happy to give you early access at no cost if you want to try it. What tools have you tried before that didn’t work? Want to understand what specifically we’re solving.”

Why this works:

  • You disclosed your affiliation immediately (Reddit community norms require this)
  • You connected to their specific problem
  • You offered genuine value (free access) without a hard sell
  • You asked a question that starts a conversation rather than making a pitch

The wrong moment:

Creating a new post: “I built an invoicing tool for Indian freelancers - check it out!” This is self-promotion without context and will be downvoted or removed.


Step 4: The Launch Post (Month 3)

Once you have built genuine credibility and your product is ready, you can make a transparent launch post in relevant subreddits.

Not all subreddits allow this. Check the rules for each. r/IndiaStartups generally allows launch posts from founders. Many others do not.
